Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and FedEx Logistics announced today that the company will move its headquarters to downtown Memphis, where it will invest $44 million and create 689 jobs.

“I congratulate FedEx Logistics on its decision to move its headquarters to downtown Memphis,” Rolfe said. “FedEx Logistics has been located in Memphis since its creation in 2000, and it means a great deal that this company continues to call Memphis home. I appreciate FedEx and FedEx Logistics for choosing to create nearly 700 high quality jobs in downtown Memphis and for its continued commitment to Tennessee.”

FedEx Logistics, headquartered in Memphis, is a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation and provides worldwide freight forwarding services that can help increase supply chain efficiency and drive down costs by replacing a maze of channels with one global distribution command and control center. FedEx Logistics integrates international freight forwarding, customs brokerage, trade and customs advisory services, and other cross-border service to create comprehensive solutions to international trade. The company has approximately 22,000 employees worldwide. Formerly known as FedEx Trade Networks, Inc., the company was rebranded as FedEx Logistics in January of this year.

Smith, president and CEO of FedEx Logistics, said. “This campus will provide a collaborative environment for our team members and a true home for this growing FedEx company as we continue to attract top talent for the future. I can’t imagine a better place to work and be a part of than the vibrant, thriving downtown Memphis business community.”

FedEx Logistics will be consolidating its Memphis operations into the former Gibson Guitar Factory building, located in downtown Memphis. The new facility will include its 120,000 square foot office space.

FedEx currently employs more than 30,000 people in the Memphis area. The FedEx Express hub in Memphis is the largest sort facility in the FedEx Express global network. In March 2017, FedEx announced it would make a capital investment of more than $1 billion to modernize its Memphis Hub and improve operational efficiency and reliability.

“The importance of FedEx to Memphis cannot be overstated,” Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said. “With this move, we’re bringing life back to the Gibson Guitar Factory with one of the strongest brands in the world and continuing to bring more jobs and people to our downtown. I couldn’t be happier with this announcement and look forward to working with Richard and his team to continue moving our city forward.”

“It is great to see FedEx continuing to invest in Memphis, especially in our urban core. FedEx Logistics’ headquarters will add a financial boost and vibrant new energy in a key downtown location,” Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris said.

“Our strategic plan encourages facilitating and accelerating downtown real estate development and incentivizing that development when necessary,” Jennifer Oswalt, president and CEO, Downtown Memphis Commission, said. “Supporting FedEx Logistics’ relocation to downtown is absolutely mission-aligned and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the neighborhood. We look forward to the 600-plus jobs they will bring and the energy those individuals will add to our growing and thriving office campus.”

“TVA and Memphis Light Gas and Water congratulate FedEx Logistics on its decision to locate in downtown Memphis,” said TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. “TVA’s mission of service is to attract and retain quality jobs for the region, and we are proud to partner with Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, Memphis Chamber, EDGE, city of Memphis and Shelby County to help further that mission and look forward to FedEx’s continued business success.”
